Marjolijn Hondebrink (Almelo, 1979) studied in Groningen after completing secondary school and obtained her first-year course diploma in the English language at the State University in Groningen. There, she studied Communication and Information Sciences, with a specialisation in Intercultural Communication. In order to put intercultural communication into practice, she studied for a year in Barcelona during her study. Marjolijn did an internship at the International Agricultural Centre (presently Wageningen International) in Wageningen, where she worked as a teacher’s aide while carrying out research about negotiations of meaning in the context of intercultural communication.
Marjolijn graduated at the end of 2005 with a thesis on intercultural communicative competence. She started working for Agriterra in February 2006 as a communications officer and she currently works as monitoring & evaluation officer. She is responsible for the management of Agro info.net (information platform for farmers’ organisations) and in addition works on the application of ICT in developing countries.
