From 1993 till 1996, Rutger Wessels (Assen, 1975) studied Information Services and Management at the Hanzehogeschool in Groningen. During this study, he did a research internship for a consultancy office for Geo-informatics concerning taking advantage of the internet that was just gaining in popularity at the time. Afterwards, he studied Alfa-Informatics at the State University in Groningen, finishing in 2003 with a thesis on annotation systems for websites.

While studying, he worked for a growing internet company in Groningen where he stayed until 2005. There, he helped develop several websites and web applications. After having worked for one year at another internet company, he started working for Agriterra in February 2007. Rutger is responsible, amongst others, for the development of agro-info.net (information platform for farmer’s organisations).
