agribusiness advisor
Bas Prins (Eindhoven, 1980) has been working at Agriterra since January 2008. Before that, he worked at Philips Healthcare on international supply chain logistics and purchasing and at the electricity and gas company Essent. At Agriterra he is agribusiness advisor in Lima (Peru), supporting the development of farmer-led businesses in Peru and Colombia.In 2010 Bas worked at the office of the Swedish Cooperative Center in Costa Rica, implementing and coordinating Agriterra’s financial management strengthening program in Central America. As a manager of the work area financial management he developed a successful training program and financial assessment tool (health check) in cooperation with various international partners.
After obtaining a Bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance, Bas also obtained a Master’s degree in Leisure, Tourism and Environment at Wageningen University. He stayed in Tanzania for his internship, improving the management of a tourism project of the coffee farmers' union KNCU. For his thesis he went to the Dominican Republic where he carried out a research concerning the local production of souvenirs and handicrafts, aiming at strengthening the links between local small scale producers and the tourism industry. His thesis won the “TUI Award 2007” for Best Thesis on Sustainable Tourism and Transport.
