Mascha Middelbeek

liaison officer

Mascha Middelbeek (Nijmegen, 1977) studied Biology at the Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR). After graduation, she worked for half a year for the Peruvian non-governmental organisation AEDES (Asociación Especializada para el Desarrollo Sostenible) in eco-tourism and ecology.

Back in the Netherlands, she started working for the consultancy firm Schuttelaar & Partners, where she stayed for more than two and a half years as an advisor in the sustainability unit. Through strategic advice, research and communication, she gave support to several clients - governments, social organisations and companies - in subjects such as sustainable entrepreneurship, natural resources, raw material chains and labour conditions.

In 2005, she started studying Leisure, Tourism and Environment (WUR), and specialised in tourism and development. This is how she came in contact with Agriterra, working in Tanzania for Agriterra in order to develop a business plan for the national farmer's organisation (MVIWATA) concerning community based rural tourism.

Since November 2007, she works for Agriterra as liaison officer for organisations in East Africa. As of April 2011 Mascha works as liaison officer for the agribusiness team. Her focus is on Africa and Asia.
