Jacomien Veldboom

officer grass-roots entrepreneurship

Jacomien Veldboom (1985) was born Drenthe. She spent the first years of her life in Rwanda. Since her fifth year she lives in the Netherlands again. She studied Cultural Anthropology in Utrecht, for which she conducted research in Guatemala about the strategies that people use to reduce their vulnerability for natural disasters. After completing her bachelor phase, she travelled through Asia for half a year in 2008. Then she attended the master International Development Studies in Wageningen. In 2010, she spent nine months in Nicaragua for her work placement and graduate research at sesame cooperation Juan Francisco Paz Silva. For her work placement she conducted a baseline study for monitoring and evaluating the services and results achieved by the cooperative. Her graduate research involved the underrepresentation of women within the cooperative and the use of participative approaches to advance their participation. After she graduated in 2011, she has worked as a volunteer for Agriterra’s news redaction and as a communications officer for Solidaridad. She also was educational counsellor for the master of International Development Studies in Wageningen.

Since January 2012, Jacomien works as a trainee for the AMID (Advanced Master in International Development) for Agriterra, fulfilling the function of officer grass-roots entrepreneurship.
