Alliance for 'Farmers Fighting Poverty' increases

AgriCord, the alliance of organisations for development cooperation with structural links to -and in most cases created by- the farmers' and rural members' organisations and agri-businesses in their home countries, is growing. During the meeting of the General Assembly of AgriCord in Paris last week the Assembly accepted CAP, Confederação dos Agricultores de Portugal, as associated member of AgriCord. AgriCord now counts seven members and four associated members. A year ago AgriCord welcomed Finland, Spain and Italy as associated organisations and now also Portugal joined the club. The seven agri-agencies participating in AgriCord are:
- Agriterra, the Netherlands
- CSA, Belgium
- UPA-DI, Canada
- Fert, France
- Afdi, France
- SCC, Sweden
- TRIAS, Belgium
All the organisations joined in AgriCord support 'Farmers Fighting Poverty', with the conviction that only by working together farmers can break their isolation, enter the market place and pull themselves out of poverty. Farmers' own organisations can provide farm and business services, institutional access, confidence and voice to their poor members. For this reason, AgriCord works to build stronger farmers' organisations together with its fellow farmers in the rural areas of developing countries.
