Help the farmers, sign the petition!

Thursday, November 26, 2009

Don't you think we find ourselves in an odd situation? As it looks now, Agriterra cannot support any farmers’ organisation in 2010 due to lack of funds. This is happening while the demand from the farmers' organisations in developing countries is growing. And world leaders are promising investments in agriculture in these countries. So far everything remains to words and financing through farmers’ organisations does not happen. Show your indignation with this and sign the petition www.farmersfightingpoverty.org!

Agriterra and other agri-agencies within AgriCord and IFAP (International Federation of Agricultural Producers) have begun a joint campaign ("Enough bleating, so now the wool!") to make the world aware of the current ridiculous situation. To eliminate hunger and poverty, investments in agriculture are needed. The farmers are the ones who produce food. Institutions like the World Bank and governments agree on this and fully undertake commitments for investments in (small-scale) agriculture in developing countries. But it only remains to promises; it is time for world leaders to suit the action to the word!

Everyone can show their indignation about the current situation by signing the petition on the website www.farmersfightingpoverty.org. During one of the meetings of world leaders and/or ministers at the beginning of next year, AgriCord will deliver the list of signatures collected. Sign all and pass the link to your colleagues, friends, family etcetera
