The programme "From Thousands to Millions" aims to improve the incomes and competencies of 1 million farmers and local entrepreneurs in Sub-Saharan Africa through the development of competitive rural agricultural systems, based on sustainable intensification of agricultural production and commodity chain development. Competitive rural industries – effectively linking agricultural systems and local enterprises – create both the incentives and the assets to strengthen sustainability of land use – enabling the farmers to generate the necessary resources to invest in soil fertility management, anti-erosion measures, and water-harvesting techniques – in turn leading to yield increases and improved input use efficiency.
