Management of Work Area 17
Jan 1, 2007-Dec 31, 2010
(1) the Work Area
This work area addresses the PO's capacity to help promote and set up farmers business initiatives such as cooperative societies for processing and/or marketing of products. Thus, the fundamental activity and goal of this work area is given: to contribute to setting up 20 (groups of) cooperative societies (or other forms of farmer-controlled business initiatives).
Why do we want to do this? Why is this a work area in FFP? The answer is obvious: because processing adds value. In other words, farmers that organize themselves for processing their raw materials and for selling those processed products increase (other things being equal) their income in a structural way, and they do so by creating and strengthening specific organisations that serve that goal: business initiatives that, more often than not, will take the form of cooperative societies.
(2) Expected results of the work area
We expect 20 business having been set up and formalized at the end of the four-year FFP period. In at least half of the cases, use shoud have been made of the Agriterra solution proposed to this end: Starting up a cooperative society
(3) PO projects / activities and approaches to be supported
