The Federation APA is based in Baia Mare in the province Maramures in the north-west of Roumania. It has 4m member APA's on village level with about 5000 members. The Federation has up to present assisted the creation of local APA's and implemented various services like agricultural extension (crop and livestock), agricultural courses, mediation for subsidies of the government, bookkeeping courses, and exchange visits to Moldova and the Netherlands. In the coming years the Federation will further professionalise as it now has its own office, also the member APA's will be reinforced. The main challenge is to improve the living conditions of the farmers and guarantee their scources of income in an environment that, due to the entrance in the EU, will be more competitive in the coming years.
