Improvement of Distribution System for Dairy Products
Jan 1, 2007-Dec 31, 2010
The Tanga Dairy Co-operative Union (TDCU is the umbrella organization for nine Primary Co-operative Societies with a total membership of 2352 dairy farmers in Tanga Region, N.E. Tanzania). The milk producers are smallholders, mainly situated in rural areas, keeping one to five dairy cattle. TDCU administrates the milk payments to the Primary Coop Societies. The milk money paid fortnightly by the Primary Co-operative Society is often the only secure household income. TDCU encourages their farmers to increase their milk production and further improve their income. TDCU therefore also supplies loans, cattle credit and cattle feed to their farmers and also operates a youngster programme to facilitate youth to start farming.
