Assistance to Fair Trade cooperatives to comply with FLO and organic standards and increase market access

Mar 1, 2009-Jun 30, 2010

SCFCU, representing 45 cooperatives and over 87,000 farmers is the second largest coffee producing cooperative union in Ethiopia. Its mission is to challenge rural poverty by strengthening farmers’ cooperative societies, providing efficient services and investing in household family members of the Primary Cooperative Societies (PCS).
The majority of member cooperatives are Fair Trade (FLO) certified and/or organic certified and/or hold UTZ Certified certificate.
These cooperatives require an increased level of supervision, monitoring and assistance from the Union as they are relatively new in the fair trade market. In order to help its member cooperatives, SCFCU wants to board on a strategic change process and formulate a 2009-2011 Strategic Action Plan. Therefore SCFCU is requesting assistance from stakeholders in its capacity building endeavour.
