Improving production for farmers in Uruguay

CAF is an umbrella organisation that was founded in 1984 by agricultural cooperatives with the aim to strengthen small and medium-sized farmers at national and international level. Nowadays, there are 33 organisations connected and the organisation represents more than 12,000 members. The members produce rice, cereals, cow and sheep meat, wool, milk, honey, citrus fruits, flowers, vegetables and oils.
CAF is working on strengthening their organisation.Through the elaboration of a business plan, increasing the participation of the members and their families (particularly women and young people) in the work of CAF, they wish to improve internal communication and communication with the members, by encouraging the use of intranet.
Both the leaders of the cooperatives, as the members are assisted in adapting their business management to the changing economic and climatic conditions.CAF has developed workshops on how to improve production methods, how to market the products and on how to handle water shortages during production.
