Toer de Boer 2008
After the 'Toer de Boer' (Farmers' Tour), 'Toer de Boerin' (Female Farmers' Tour) and 'Toer de Jonge Boer' (Young Farmers' Tour) Agriterra organised another 'Toer de Boer' this year at 23, 24 and 25 June, this time focusing on the cattle and dairy sector.
The immediate reason for this event was the 10th anniversary of Agriterra.
The Farmers' Tour took place in collaboration with the agricultural and horticultural organisations; LTO Noord, ZLTO and LLTB. But also the business world made its contribution, with CRV and Vion being closely involved.
Representatives from thirteen farmers' organisations came to the Netherlands to participate in this event. They all have already a partnership relation with an organisation from the Netherlands. There were participants from countries such as Kenya, India and Brazil. LTO Noord, ZLTO and LLTB each organised a programme for one linguistic group. Participants spent the night in host families.
The 'Toer de Boer' programme consisted of company and farm visits, debates and consultation. Thus in three days' time we tried to provide visitors with a proper image of the dairy cattle sector, the dairy production chain and the challenges the sector is facing. During this tour exchange and direct contacts from farmer to farmer were at the centre stage. The evolution of milk prices on the world market and the impact on the sector and the farmers' budgets in the Netherlands and in developing countries were a topic of discussion.
