IFAP
Until the liquidation in November 2010 of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) Agriterra worked closely together with IFAP. The world farmer’s organisation represented 112 national organisations in 87 countries. It was a global network in which farmers from industrialized and developing countries exchange concerns and set common priorities. We considered the international federation as an important element in our agricultural development cooperation. By advocating farmers' interests and influencing policy at the international level, IFAP would work on improving the position of farmers in developing countries. Until 2010 Agriterra supported IFAP financially in carrying out her work.
The failure of IFAP is in sharp contrast with the progressing allying of farmers’ organisations at international level. In October 2010 the Pan African Farmers Forum (known as PAFFO) was launched. PAFFO is made up of five regional farmers' associations from across Africa and represents farmers from all African countries. COPA-COCEGA (Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations) represents farmers’ organisations and cooperatives in Europe. In Asia, the Asian Farmers' Association (AFA), representing about 10 million farmers, is expanding her members. South-America has COPROFAM and has plans for a regional network. Agriterra follows this development with interest.
