Mission Statement

In the case of Agriterra, these are the agricultural and horticultural organisations, the Dutch rural women’s organisations, the National Cooperative Council for Agriculture and Horticulture, and the Dutch Agricultural Youth Organisation. Agriterra aims to stimulate, support and finance the international cooperation between rural people’s organisations in the Netherlands and those in developing countries.

The inspiration

Strong and representative rural organisations are indispensable for the promotion of democracy, for a better distribution of income and for the economic development of a country. In developing countries, many people live and work in rural areas, and they can contribute considerably to these changes. Agriterra wants to work with those rural people who are truly dedicated to this. And we do so because we are convinced that they are able to take their development into their own hands, and that the best way to do this is to get organised. Because together you stand strong.

The objective

Agriterra aims to promote economic activities in developing countries. We also want to see that the organisations that represent the interests of rural populations develop themselves into strong and representative member’s organisations with a primary focus on providing services to people in rural areas. We support these processes by stimulating cooperation and international exchange amongst rural people’s organisations. We expect strong and representative member’s organisations to positively influence the economic, social and ecological sustainable development of rural areas in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Central and Eastern Europe, and that in so doing rural people will enjoy higher standards of living.
