Alliance to improve market access for small producers

24-08-2021

Agriterra and e-trade platform Producers Market signed a memorandum of understanding to improve market access and create new and better opportunities for small scale farmers worldwide.

Agriterra and Producers Market will work together to implement trade facilitation strategies to connect cooperatives more directly with downstream wholesale buyers to capture greater price points and consistency in sales.

As an international specialist in cooperative development, Agriterra provides advice, training and exchange services to professionalize producer organizations and strengthen farmer ownership, leading to a stable and prosperous agri-sector and economy as a whole. Producers Market is a market linkage platform bringing together producers and buyers in one global community of shared value partnerships and direct transactions.

Within the next months, both organizations will collaborate to register Producers Market profiles for cooperatives within Agriterra’s client network. Initially, they will focus on producer organizations participating in the Agridigitalización project, which seekse-commerce and digital solutions to overcome the increasing obstacles for farmers to access market and financing due to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and implemented by Agriterra in alliance with Agros International, the Foundation for Rural Business Development (Funder) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), this initiative directly benefits 88 cooperatives and associations in Bolivia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and Peru.
