If you love your job at Agriterra

21-12-2015

People talk often talk about the burden of working. Completely wrong approach! In our annual advisors meeting with 40 advisors my colleague Bas said it exactly right: “every morning I go to work and when I leave my house I read on my door: “If you love your job, you don’t have to work a single day”.

People talk often talk about the burden of working. Completely wrong approach! In our annual advisors meeting with 40 advisors my colleague Bas said it exactly right: “every morning I go to work and when I leave my house I read on my door: “If you love your job, you don’t have to work a single day”.

Sharing experiences
It opened my eyes and made me realise that this is the essence on how to approach work. And the beautiful thing is, this is happening in Agriterra at the moment. We work for and with farmers by sharing experiences between Dutch farmers and experts. Nothing makes me feel better when we make farm organisations able to change tax legislation in their country or region. Or a cooperative that is able to attract a loan after an expert’s advice on making and presenting a business plan.

Contribute to big challenges
With this work we contribute to the biggest challenges in the world: sustainability, food security and employment and growth in emerging economies. And doing this with the principal actors: farmers and its organisations, is the way to do it. Of course good policies and engagement of businesses to improve the situation of farmers is just as important. We help farmers to engage with the policy making and big business, and make sure they can negotiate.

Enjoy!
Our work for Agriterra is fulfilling and I saw this week in the beautiful Elspeet that all my colleagues feel this way. It gives so much energy to work in this environment. Have a nice working day! Thanks Bas!
