James Muhangi

James Muhangi is an Agricultural Economist from Makerere University Kampala. He’s very dynamic with diverse knowledge and experiences in research, agribusiness, cooperative governance, finance management, business development as well as mainstreaming gender in agricultural value chains.

 

James has worked with Rubanga Cooperative Society that deals in coffee, beans, maize, millet and soybeans since 2010. He has served as gender officer with the main objective of mainstreaming gender within the coffee value chain under aBi Trust funded project.
He also worked as an Internal Controls Systems Manager for United States African Development Foundation (USADF) funded project overseeing both organic and fair-trade coffee certifications. This resulted into Fair trade certification of coffee from Rubanga cooperative. Expertise was gained in advisory, policy and management.

 

James worked also with Orga-Farm Limited (a company that manufactures, commercialises organic agricultural inputs and offers consultancy in agribusiness) as Managing Director. During the tenure, the company won two awards from Consortium for enhancing University Responsiveness to Agribusiness Development Limited (CURAD) as the best youth entrepreneur and the overall winner of the agribusiness innovations challenge out of 9 categories in 2014. Entrepreneurial experiences were gained.

 

He has been a research fellow with International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) 2015-2018 as a principal investigator on economic assessments of IMO inoculated deep litter piggery system in Uganda. Spearheaded data analysis and report writing for pig farmer profiling, Knowledge Attitude and Practices (KAP) on feeds, management and swine fever control in Uganda as well as consumer perceptions and demand of animal source proteins using Choice Experiments in Central Uganda.

 

James has also worked as an independent consultant at Bioversity International-Uganda taking a lead in the ex-ante economic impact assessment of Fusarium Oxysporum Cubense Tropical Race 4 (Foc TR4) in dessert bananas in Uganda. Spearheaded the assessment of gender integration in the Collaborative Forest Management (CFM) guidelines in Uganda with AUPWAE. He has gunned experience in research designs, data handling, analysis and scientific paper writing.

 

He has recently been working as a consultant with Agriterra/SNV-TIDE project in South western Uganda from June 2018 to December 2018 as a cooperative development officer with a mandate to strengthen cooperatives in governance, financial management, strategic business development as well as interesting dairy farmers to uptake TIDE project products for farm investment. This aims at improved business performance and sustainability of cooperatives. He is now a business advisor with Agriterra/SNV-TIDE project South Western Uganda.
