Every strong cooperative starts with a shared vision, and the courage to grow together. For KAN Jabung in East Java, that journey meant turning complexity into clarity. With over 2,300 dairy and sugarcane farmers, the cooperative set out to strengthen its governance, serve its members better, and build a foundation for long-term prosperity. Partnering up with Agriterra, KAN Jabung began a transformation that’s redefining what sustainable growth looks like for farmer organisations in Indonesia.
When Agriterra partnered up with KAN Jabung in 2018, the cooperative had a clear aspiration: to grow sustainably, strengthen services for its members, and professionalise its operations. A vision that perfectly echoed SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Through hands-on advisor support and peer-to-peer training in governance, financial management, and business development (2018–2024), Agriterra helped KAN Jabung redesign its cooperative model from the inside out.
Together, they achieved key milestones:
- Secured financing to expand operations
- Spun off business units into professionally managed Limited Liability Companies (LLCs)
- Implemented an ERP system to streamline data and decision-making
- Grew total assets, building long-term financial sustainability

This transformation went beyond business. With stronger governance and cleaner structures, KAN Jabung can now reinvest more into community development, infrastructure, and member services, helping farmers thrive today and tomorrow.
“Agriterra has been a key partner in shaping our strategy, strengthening member commitment, and building modern governance and business practices. By connecting us with Dutch experts and offering practical solutions, Agriterra has helped us put good governance into action.”
— Eva Marliyanti, President Director, KAN Jabung
In a market where cheap imports can destabilize local milk prices, professional and resilient cooperatives are vital. With Agriterra’s support, KAN Jabung is proving what’s possible when local knowledge meets collaborative expertise.
Together, they’re building a future where farmers benefit from stronger systems, fairer opportunities, and resilient growth - a true example of sowing the seeds ofchange together.
