Synopsis (short abstract)

‍The Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the GCF-funded TUNZA Project outlines the measures required to manage environmental and social risks associated with strengthening climate resilience and sustainable agricultural value chains across 14 counties in Kenya's Lake Region Economic Bloc. The project supports smallholder farmers through climate-smart agriculture, landscape restoration and value chain development in six priority sectors: dairy, poultry, coffee, tea, fruit trees and African leafy vegetables. Classified as a moderate-risk project under FAO's Environmental and Social Management Framework, the ESMP establishes mitigation measures, monitoring systems, stakeholder engagement processes and grievance mechanisms to ensure that project activities are implemented in an environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive manner while enhancing resilience, livelihoods and ecosystem health.
