Africa is facing an escalating soil fertility crisis and without immediate interventions, the continent continues to lose over 3,5 billion Euros per
year worth of nutrients. To increase productivity whilst decreasing soil fertility decline, balanced fertilization is essential. Farmer cooperatives using soil scanners to provide real-time fertilizer recommendations may be part of the solution. Rabobank Foundation funded the scanners. AgroCares and Agriterra present their findings from a soil sensor services pilot for farmer cooperatives in Kenya.

Agriterra and the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives & Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have agreed to cooperate in developing farmers' corporations in Indonesia.
"The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to increase the added value of farmers' products and their economic value. “Indonesian farmers will have to start entering the industrial sector" said Deputy of Production and Marketing Victoria Simanungkalit at the signing of the MoU in Jakarta.Read more
Agriterra, the Dutch Young Farmers Association (NAJK) and the National Cooperative Council (NCR) want to give a voice to young people in the Netherlands and abroad so that their vision and challenges are heard in order to contribute to a sustainable environment and a productive agri-food sector. Together they developed a programme focused on leadership skills, lobbying, pitching and cooperative communication.
On 10 October 2018 young agri-leaders from different continents gathered at the Agriterra Youth Leadership Academy.
On Thursday 1 November ambassador Ngo Thi Hoa from Vietnam visited the head office of Agriterra. She was accompanied by Nguyen Hai Tinh, head of Vietnam Trade Office. They had an appointment with Kees Blokland, director of Agriterra and Bertine Schieven, business advisor Agriterra Vietnam.
The Vietnamese delegation visited Agriterra to talk about the progress of the Cooperative Development Plan in Vietnam and to talk about opportunities to intensify the collaboration between Agriterra and the Vietnamese government.
On Monday 29 October Hein Schumacher, Chief Executive Officer of FrieslandCampina, and Marc Calon, Chairman of the Board of Agriterra, signed an agreement to extend the partnership between the two organisations for another period of 5 years.Read more
In October 2018 nine young farmers from diferent countries visited the Netherlands for a studytour. "It was the best week I ever had in my life", said Alice from Rwanda. "It was fruitful, I learned a lot about how you can be a good farmer and a good leader and also I shared knowledge with other young farmer."Read more
