Across cocoa-growing communities in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, many farmers still face barriers to managing their income safely and accessing financial services. Cash payments, limited banking access, and a lack of digital skills can make it difficult for farmers to plan, invest, and grow. The Future of Farmer Empowerment Project helps change that by supporting farmers and cooperatives to benefit from the digital revolution. Running from April 2024 to September 2027, the project supports 20,000 cocoa farmers across six cooperatives, strengthening their access to digital financial services and building the skills needed to use them with confidence.

Farmers are supported to access and use tools such as:
These tools help farmers receive timely and secure payments, reduce risks linked to cash transactions, and create digital financial records that can open doors to credit and farm investments.
Training is provided to both farmers and cooperatives in:
This helps farmers manage their income more efficiently and make informed financial decisions.

The project places strong emphasis on women and vulnerable farmers, including elderly and remote farmers. Together with partner 100WEEKS, vulnerable women receive targeted support to strengthen their financial independence.
At the same time, human rights committees within cooperatives help address labour-related concerns and strengthen transparency and accountability.
Implemented together with Tony’s Open Chain and 100WEEKS, the project supports farmer organisations to harness digital innovation and build stronger, more resilient futures.
