Richard van der Maden
Richard van der Maden (1974) grew up on a mixed crop and dairy farm in the Zevenbergschen Hoek area in Brabant. He studied Management, Economics and Law in Rotterdam. For his graduation project he studied the fiscal and legal aspects of farmers’ cooperatives in the European Union. The agricultural sector in general, and cooperatives in particular, are a recurring theme in his career. In 1997 he started working as a policy and project officer at the National Cooperative Council (NCR), where he worked closely with board members, staff and members of Dutch farmers’ cooperatives. After nine years at the NCR, Richard joined The Greenery, a commercial and logistics cooperative enterprise that provides fresh vegetables, fruit and mushrooms year round from The Netherlands and abroad. He managed and supported cooperative affairs, department boards, the general assembly of members, and individual members.
In 2009 Richard moved to farmers’ organisation ZLTO (Southern Dutch Organisation for Agriculture and Horticulture) in Den Bosch. As a horticultural specialist he was responsible for the regional and (inter)national advocacy for the greenhouse horticulture sector and mushroom sector.
As an Agripooler, Richard was already familiar with Agriterra and since 2010 he carried out advisory missions in many countries, including Vietnam, Kenya, Cambodia and Indonesia. Since April 2014 Richard has been working as a Business Advisor, firstly with a focus on the development of cooperatives in Indonesia and currently responsible for supporting the Agriterra clients in Nepal and the Philippines.
