Youths have the future in Ghana
As a part of the implementation of Farmer-Focused Transformation, Agriterra Ghana supports the Wassa East Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union limited (WECU) towards the ambition of becoming a farmer-led cocoa beans aggregator by 2025. On the path towards achieving its Big Hairy Ambitious Goal, WECU strengthened its governance model with the establishment of a Youth Council as a new body internal to the cooperative. This youth council is made up of 80 members and includes 57 men and 23 women.

Experiencing the International Agripool with Moses Kyakora
At Agriterra, a vibrant community of hands-on experts forms the Agripool network. That’s not only the case for our peer-to-peer exchange from the Netherlands; we also facilitate knowledge transfer in the regions in which we are active. One of those local professionals is Moses Kyakora of Bukonzo Organic Farmers Cooperative Union in Uganda. For Agriterra, the marketing manager and researcher joined a cooperative union in Southwest Ethiopia to perform a 9-day partnership assessment. He would recommend it to anyone.

Agriterra showcases success of Dutch cooperatives to Philippine delegation
From 26 to 31 March 2023, Agriterra organised an exchange visit in the Netherlands to share experiences and lessons learned from successful Dutch cooperatives for 10 participants from 7 organisations who are acting as Agricultural Cooperative Development Champions under the USAID GROW Coop project in the Philippines.

Successful Youth Council and Branch Committees Formation for TUCOCPRCOS!
TUCOCPRCOS is a sugar cane primary cooperative located in Madizini village, in the Mvomera district, in Tanzania. The first idea to set up their youth council was planted during Agriterra's ‘Jobs Jobs Jobs project’ carried out in 2020, in which Agriterra subsidised the recruitment and employment of young talent to work for the cooperative.
Through the involvement of a young manager and accountant hired under Jobs Jobs Jobs, TUCOCPRCOS realised the importance of involving youth into cooperative activities, which stimulated the organisation to start several youth supporting initiatives.
The dream of the tea farmers has come true

MUFINDI Tea Cooperative Joint Enterprise LTD (MUTCOJE LTD) is a cooperative association that came into being during a joint project of cooperatives, involved in tea cultivation in MUFINDI District in Tanzania. In 2022, MUTCOJE LTD was formed and officially registered with 16 tea primary cooperatives. Their main crop is green tea leaf which is sold to tea processing factories. Currently, MUTCOJE LTD serves about 1807 individual members and active clients.

In the coming five months I will explore Rwanda while fulfilling my internship at Agriterra. I will focus on analyzing policy, its actors, institutions and strategies. Furthermore, I aim to evaluate policies and their social impact. At the end of the five months, I hope to have completed my master's: Sociology: Contemporary Social Problems. During this time I would like to keep everybody interested posted with this blog sharing some Rwanda with you.
New programme ACTING NOW
